What is Brahma Muhurtham?
Brahma Muhurtham (బ్రహ్మ మహూర్తం / பிரம்ம முகூர்தம்) is the most sacred period of the Hindu day — the 48-minute window that ends exactly 48 minutes before local sunrise. Ancient texts describe it as the time when Brahma (the creator) is active, making it ideal for spiritual practice.
Exact Timing
Brahma Muhurtham = 96 minutes before sunrise to 48 minutes before sunrise (a 48-minute window). For example, if sunrise is at 6:00 AM, Brahma Muhurtham is from 4:24 AM to 5:12 AM.
What to Do During Brahma Muhurtham
Meditation and dhyana, Vedic study and reading scriptures, yoga and pranayama, prayer and mantra japa, starting new learning or education, setting intentions for the day.
Why is it Sacred?
Ayurveda and Jyotish both support Brahma Muhurtham. The atmosphere is pure, the mind is rested and clear after sleep, and cosmic energies are considered most sattvic (pure) during this period.
